Hundreds rally against Union Co. redistricting decision

UNION COUNTY — Hundreds of Union County families rallied against the school board's decision to move thousands of students to different schools.

On Sunday afternoon they held signs and listened to speakers encouraging them to fight Tuesday's surprise vote on redistricting.

Organizers had parents fill out thousands of transfer applications and donate money for an impending legal battle.

"We have re-energized and refocused. I know Tuesday night was tough on a lot of people and people were sad and crying and thought it was over. This is far from over," said organizer Maura MacKinnon.

Board members say redistricting is necessary to alleviate overcrowding. A lawsuit against the decision is expected to be filed sometime this week.
