Huntersville holds Puerto Rico relief donation drive

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Several weeks ago, the island of Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria.

The Town of Huntersville is now rallying its residents to help.

Huntersville is partnering with the North Carolina Chapter of Puerto Rico Rises and the Lake Norman community to send supplies needed by the island of Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico Rises is a collective grassroots movement in partnership with United for Puerto Rico, an organization created as a direct response to help the island in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria by the Governor's Office.

The donation drive will be held to gather medical supplies, over-the-counter medicine, first aid, water, life straws (a device that filters the water for drinking) and monetary donations for Puerto Rico.

Residents can drop off supplies at Grand Oak Elementary School, 15410 Stumptown Road in Huntersville, Sunday from 1 until 3 p.m.

Those who cannot make the event can drop off supplies at the Huntersville Town Hall until Friday at 5 p.m.

Monetary donations will be accepted here.
