Huntersville officers meet with community, hand out ice cream

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Huntersville police officers handed out free ice cream cones Saturday afternoon as a way to help provide relief from the heat to people in the community.

Residents got to meet with officers and get ice cream at Kilwins in Birkdale Village for their “Cone with a Cop” event.

The goal was for officers to show they are approachable.

“Come get some ice cream, cool off, talk to us about what's going on, what their concerns are and how we can address those concerns,” said Sgt. Michael Prather, with the Huntersville Police Department. “It's all about community policing and that's what we do here in Huntersville.”
