Thousands of flights at Charlotte's airport canceled, delayed due to Hurricane Matthew

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Thousands of flights across the southeast Friday, including flights at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, were canceled or delayed due to Hurricane Matthew.

The airport in Charleston, South Carolina and Florida airports in Jacksonville, Orlando and Gainesville canceled all flights as the storm brushed up against the coast.

Travelers were forced to reroute their plans or sit through delays.

“You’re nervous,” said traveler Camron Pollard. “Feel for the people who are in there, who are getting stuck and had to evacuate. For me, I’m just trying to get home.”

Every airport is urging travelers to check with their airline before coming to the airport. Some airlines have also issued travel alerts, allowing passengers to change their flights because of Hurricane Matthew.
