I-77 ramp reopens after being closed for 1 year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A major ramp heading north onto Interstate 77 reopened Monday after about a year.

There is also a new bridge over the interstate at the ramp at LaSalle Street.

Department of Transportation expanded and extended the ramp.

The longer ramp allows drivers to stay on the ramp straight onto Interstate 85 northbound, or they can merge onto northbound I-77.

Drivers are glad the part of the construction is over.

"The last time I came and I had to turn back, I realized it was closed, but it's good that they opened it and traffic can be flowing," motorist Mike Robinson said.

Construction continues on half of the LaSalle Street bridge over I-77.

The entire 26-mile toll lane project from Charlotte to Mooresville is scheduled to open before the end of this year.
