I-85 south in Gastonia shut down after accident

GASTONIA, N.C. — Interstate 85 was shut down Thursday afternoon after an accident involving a tractor-trailer, officials said.

The southbound lanes of interstate has been shut down at exit 19 and traffic is already backed up for at least two miles.

Officials said a tractor-trailer is leaking diesel fuel from its saddle tanks.

Officials have not commented on any injuries or how the accident happened.

There is no estimate on when the roadway will reopen.
