Infant's remains found during eviction in South Carolina

FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. — The remains of an infant were found as sheriff's deputies served an eviction notice at a South Carolina apartment complex.

Laurens County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jarvis Reeder told local media outlets that the remains were found during an eviction in Fountain Inn on Monday.

Reeder said the Fountain Inn Police Department is investigating the death.

Police Chief Keith Morton said investigators are questioning a person, but no charges have been filed. Morton would not identify the person.

Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols said he could not confirm the infant's gender or age until an autopsy is completed Tuesday.

The State Law Enforcement Division is helping in the investigation.
