CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Channel 9 is pressing for answers following a social media post by North Carolina's new insurance commissioner days after taking office.
The post by insurance commissioner Mike Causey happened the day after nationwide women's rallies over some of President Donald Trump's policies.
Causey shared a meme on his Facebook and Twitter accounts mocking the women who marched.
The next day, he issued a statement apologizing, saying the post represented a momentary lapse in judgment and that he was truly sorry.
Causey's Facebook and Twitter pages have been shut down.
A spokesmen with the Department of Insurance refused to comment on whether the closure of Causey's accounts was due to the controversy or if they would be reactivated.
The North Carolina Democratic Party put out its own statement, calling Causey's post disgusting and unacceptable.
They also called into question his judgment and fitness for elected office.
