Investigators identify, clear person of interest in Maggie Daniels case

NEWTON, N.C. — Officials identified, interviewed then cleared a person of interest in connection with the counselor who was killed in Newton.
 
Newton and SBI investigators said the person was mentioned on social media as a person Maggie Daniels had issues with in the past at her apartment.
 
Officials said the person of interest was interviewed at Newtown Police Headquarters and cooperated fully with investigators.
 
Police said the person is no longer a person of interest.
 
Investigators are continuing to review multiple social media sites for more tips and leads.

Police are looking for the person who killed Daniels after a medical examiner determined her cause of death was the result of a homicide.
