CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A man was found shot to death at the bottom of a stairwell at an east Charlotte apartment complex.
Police said Olman Cruz was found dead late Sunday night.
They got a 911 call saying someone fell down a set of stairs that leads to two apartment units on the second floor. When they arrived, Cruz was dead.
Eyewitness News spoke to a neighbor who lives in the same building. He said he heard two loud noises, opened the door and saw Cruz at the bottom of the stairs and thought he fell.
When he tried to help, he said he realized Cruz had been shot.
“It's just bad,” Quenton Dawson said. “He's a nice guy, good person and he tried to do anything for you.”
Eyewitness News saw police coming and going from the apartment complex all morning on Monday. They have not made an arrest.
Channel 9 also checked crime reports in the area. There have been three other homicides within a quarter-mile of where the incident happened in the past year.
