Matthews man arrested after shootout with police

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators said more charges are possible against a man accused of firing a gun at officers after trying to rob a CVS Pharmacy in Denver.

Investigators said Tyler Cameron Kennedy, 23, of 10515 Paces Ave., Apt. 1826, Matthews jumped over the counter and demanded money, but did not get any and fled the store.

He fled the scene in a pickup truck and deputies caught up with him on Burton Lane near the Little Creek Access on Lake Norman.

Deputies said gunfire was exchanged by the robber, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, and police.

Kennedy was shot in the lower body and taken into custody.

He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center Main and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Kennedy is charged with one felony count of attempted murder on a law enforcement officer.

Neighbors in the area are rattled.
