Iredell Co. busts drug smuggling ring tied to Mexican drug cartel

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Iredell County busted a drug smuggling ring with ties to the Mexican drug cartel.

Drug agents have been investigating Monica Renteria and Juan Torres for years.

They are accused of smuggling cocaine and meth across Iredell and surrounding counties.

Agents believe the couple relocated to the Statesville area in an attempt to establish their operations.

More arrests are expected in the future.
