Iredell County defense attorney no longer faces charges

A prominent Iredell County defense attorney is no longer facing domestic violence charges.

Ken Darty in February was charged with assault by pointing a gun and communicating threats.

The charges were dropped Wednesday.

Darty maintained his innocence and said that as an attorney, he has the utmost respect for the law.

Darty statement:

"I have never pointed a firearm at any animal, let alone a human being. And, while I am passionate about my clients and very protective of my children I would never issue a threat to anyone unless I was legally justified. I am happy that this matter has been resolved in the manner that I anticipated, however, it has posed a hardship for not only my family, but my clients as well. I take great pride in protecting the rights of my clients as an attorney, and as a citizen, I have the upmost respect for the law. I want to thank each and every one of the people that know me and know my character who have supported me the last month."
