KANNAPOLIS, N.C. - Kannapolis police announced Thursday they had identified the third suspect in a deadly shooting that happened last month.
Police said they were looking for Reginald Javae Clark in connection to the May 28 shooting death of Daniel Cooper. Clark has been charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy.
Officers are still searching for 19-year-old Darius Jamal Smotherson.
Police say Cooper was in a car with a friend on Snow Street, when they were approached by three men who were apparently trying to rob them. At some point, a shot was fired and it hit Cooper in the neck.
At the time of the shooting, Cooper was just four days shy of his 18th birthday and three weeks away from graduation at A.L. Brown High School.
His friends there painted a rock in his honor and written messages, which his parents have seen.
