Kings Mountain police officers recovering after being struck by car on slick road

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Two Kings Mountain police officers were hit by a car Saturday because of snowy and icy road conditions.

On Monday, the officers were at home recovering.

The two officers weren’t seriously injured, but officials are warning drivers to be careful of emergency crews in the bad conditions.

The officers were struck on Shelby Road at Highway 74.

After Sunday's winter storm, road conditions are expected to get worse.

Officials said drivers need to be careful, especially around cars and first responders pulled along side of the road.

Police said the officers had stopped for a traffic accident when another car hit both of them. They were treated at the hospital.

Officer Robert Crosby needs a leg brace and further treatment, and Officer Carl Proper has a bruised leg.

Drivers told Channel 9 people are still speeding like weather conditions aren’t a factor.

The police chief said that emergency workers have to be on the road in the worst conditions.
