Lanes may close early ahead of Matthews-Mint Hill road project

Lanes may close as soon as Tuesday ahead of a major road project in the Matthews-Mint Hill area

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is closing Highway 51 at Idlewild Road on Friday,  but some lanes may close Tuesday.

There will be detours while crews build a roundabout.

Just last week, Channel 9 reported emergency crews are concerned about response times during the construction.
