Latest state inspection reveals problems with CMS bus fleet

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Channel 9 obtained the latest bus inspection report Monday morning for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, which covers the 2016-2017 school year.

The report outlines problems uncovered during a 3-week inspection in April and May.

The inspector with the Department of Public Instruction said he inspected 104 buses, about 10 percent of the fleet.

CMS received a score of 77.73, almost double what it was last year. The higher score means a higher number of defects were found.

Of the 104 yellow buses inspected, 49 had to be taken out of service immediately for issues like little-to-no tread on tires, safety lights not working and brake problems.

Channel 9 is digging through the 70-page report and will breakdown any trends and major problems we find, on Eyewitness News at 5 p.m.
