CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Agencies met with Charlotte club owners Thursday night to try to put a stop to the rash of violence that has plagued events surrounding the CIAA Tournament.
Alcohol Law Enforcement and fire and police departments are stressing security measures bar owners can take to keep people safe.
Officers said they are not looking to cite businesses, but are on a mission to keep everyone safe.
“It's not a troublesome time,” said promoter and club owner Bennie Gray. “It's a fun time, and as you know, sometimes it can get too fun. We just want to stay as safe as possible.”
The CIAA Tournament begins Feb. 28.
The meeting was just one of several that police are hosting to help club owners prepare.
There have been issues with unsanctioned events surrounding this college basketball tournament for years.
One hundred shots were fired in the streets of uptown Charlotte during last year’s tournament, striking homes and cars.
