Lawsuit over deadly 2013 Statesville bus crash headed to mediation

STATESVILLE, N.C. — The lawsuit over a deadly 2013 bus crash involving a Statesville church group will head to mediation this week.

Members of Front Street Baptist Church were returning to Statesville from a trip to Tennessee when the bus blew a tire and crashed on Oct. 20, 2013, on Interstate 40 in Jefferson County, Tennessee.

Six people died in the crash.

Our partners at the Statesville Record and Landmark reported that the 12 survivors and five estate holders are seeking more than $10,000 in damages.

The lawsuit names Hankook Tire Company and the estate of Randy Morrison. Morrison was driving the bus when the tire blew, causing it to crash.

The lawsuit alleges Hankook knew or should have known the tire's design would put people in unreasonable danger.
