Legal expert explains possible deal in Erica Parsons case

Investigators found the remains of missing teen Erica Parsons Tuesday in a remote field in Chester County.

It is unclear what led authorities to Erica Parson's remains, but in August, family members told Channel 9,

Sandy Parsons knew where Erica Parsons was located and wanted to strike a deal with investigators.

Eyewitness News reporter Tina Terry asked our legal expert if a deal is even possible.

Attorney James Wyatt said it is very possible that either Sandy or Casey Parsons struck a deal with prosecutors in exchange for information about her whereabouts.

Erica Parsons was reported missing three years ago and it has taken its toll on family and detectives.

That is one reason Wyatt said prosecutors may have been open to striking a deal with Casey or Sandy Parsons.

"There is value to bringing closure here, not only in terms of peace for family members, but also the amount of resources, time investigative effort that's been put into this case," Wyatt said.

In July, Channel 9 spoke one on one with Erica's Aunt Robin Ashley and her adoptive sister, Brooklyn MacDonald.

They said they recently visited Sandy Parsons in prison and he told them where Erica Parsons was located.

“He did say when they do find her, everyone will be shocked. We don't know what that means,” MacDonald said. “Bottom line is, he wants a deal. If they'll give him a deal, he'll tell where she's at.”

Wyatt said if a deal was struck with Sandy or Casey, it's not likely to involve cutting their current sentences short.

“I think it'd be highly unlikely that any deal would be struck where either of the Parsons walk out of jail,” Wyatt said. “The deal would more likely be additional charges are not being brought, or there is some concession for locating the body.”

Wyatt said if murder charges are brought in the case, the person charged could face federal and state charges since that body was found over the state border.
