Life without parole for man who murdered Charlotte father

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office says 49-year-old Shelton Kimble will spend the rest of his life behind bars for the 2016 murder of a Charlotte father.

A jury found Kimble guilty of first-degree murder Friday for the January 3, 2016 shooting of 45-year-old Tyrone Matthew Burch after the two quarreled outside a restaurant on Beatties Ford Road.

Prosecutors said the fight was broken up and Burch walked away. Kimble went to his car, got a revolver, and followed Burch down a nearby street before shooting him in the back five times.

Burch was Charlotte's first homicide victim of 2016.

Speaking with Channel 9 in 2016, Burch's estranged wife told us they had been married for 20 years and had a son and daughter together.

After the guilty verdict Friday, Superior Court Judge Andrew T. Heath immediately sentenced Kimble to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
