Lightning strike blamed for fire that destroyed vintage Porsche

HICKORY, N.C. — A quick-moving storm Thursday is being blamed for a fire in Hickory that destroyed a vintage sports car parked in a shed.

A lightning strike in northeast Hickory started a fire in a shed after hitting a tree nearby.

Inside the building was parked a 1973 Porsche valued at tens of thousands of dollars.

The owner wasn't home at the time but a neighbor said he saw the strike.

The storm also brought heavy rain to parts of Catawba and Burke counties.
