LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Lincolnton police have arrested a Lincoln County School District employee accused of soliciting a minor for sex over the computer.
He was charged with soliciting a minor for an unlawful sex act by a computer and appearing to meet the minor.
Police said that Carpenter and detectives, posing as the underage child, exchanged dialogue on various social media outlets. The dialogue included discussion of Carpenter and the underage child agreeing to meet to engage in sexual activity.
Arrangements were made for Carpenter to meet the child at a prearranged location and when Carpenter arrived at the location he was arrested without incident.
He was booked in the Lincoln County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond.
School district officials confirmed with Channel 9 that Carpenter was a teacher in the district and has been placed on administrative leave.
They would not say which school he taught at though.
Carpenter had no prior criminal history.
Channel 9 reporter Alexa Ashwell is digging deeper into this case and will have more on Eyewitness News at 5 p.m.
