Local man designs Chiquita design contest

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One of Charlotte’s newest companies is making its first local donation in the form of a bowtie design contest.

Local resident Joe Nelson won Chiquita’s contest, which means his design will be the official logo for Chiquita’s charitable efforts.

Chiquita is also making a $1,000 donation to the charity of Nelson’s choice. He picked the local march of Dimes group because his family nearly needed them with his own children.

“Learning since then what the March of Dimes does and how they provide a support structure and support families, I was very happy to be able to support them through Chiquita’s generosity,” Nelson said.

The bowties design will be produced by a local company and will also be the official bowtie for the Chiquita Golf Classic to be held in September.

Chiquita will fill between 200 and 250 positions when it moved to the Queen City. Nearly half of Chiquita’s employees in Cincinnati agreed to move to Charlotte.
