CHARLOTTE - Brian Chandler appeared in court Wednesday. He is accused of robbing a cab driver and slashing his throat near Southpark Mall in September 2012. Since his arrest, Chandler has been in jail or mental hospitals.
A state psychiatrist has found him competent to stand trial, and Wednesday afternoon Chandler was hoping a judge would reduce his bonds so he could get out of jail.
His attorney told the judge that Chandler would live with his father, who would move to Charlotte from Ohio if his son was able to get out of jail.
The judge did not buy this and refused to lower Chandler’s bonds.
On Tuesday Mark Becker spoke with Gary Hinson, the cab driver who Chandler allegedly attacked. Hinson said he did not plan to attend Wednesday’s hearing, but would be present when the case moved to trial.
Trail was set for sometime this summer.
