Man charged with kidnapping woman at Charlotte Harris Teeter

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It was a scary start to the weekend for a 63-year-old woman when police said she was kidnapped Saturday morning while at a Harris Teeter near UNC-Charlotte’s campus

Channel 9 spoke to the woman, who didn’t want to be identified. She said she was in the grocery store’s parking lot on University City Boulevard when she was approached by the suspect, now identified as Christian Shipp.

"I'm in my car and next thing I know, he's standing in the doorway of the car," the victim said.

Police said Shipp got behind the wheel and demanded that she get in the car. The victim told Channel 9 she never saw a gun, but Shipp kept his hand in his pocket the entire time.

"He got in, started driving and he had his hand in his pocket the entire time like he had a gun, so I wasn't going to try anything at that point," the victim said.

The woman said Shipp drove her around for almost 45 minutes before dropping her off by a Cracker Barrel on Queen City Drive and Billy Graham Parkway.

She tried to get her car back by going into the driver’s seat, but he pulled her out of the car and took off, according to the victim.

Police managed to quickly track Shipp down and arrest him. He’s charged with robbery with a deadly weapon, assault on a female, and second-degree kidnapping.

Shipp is under a $100,000 bond.
