CMPD charges 3 in connection with city's 73rd homicide

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are looking for the gunman who shot and killed a man Oct. 12 on Farmer Street, off West Boulevard in west Charlotte.

Officers responded around 4 p.m. to an assault with a deadly weapon call stating that someone had been shot at that location.

Police charged Bobby Smith Jr., 30; Shamekia Hill, 25; and Felicia Woods, 24; for their involvement in the case.

Detavious Springs, Hill and Woods agreed to meet with Smith for a drug deal, but the trio intended to rob Smith.

Shots were fired and Springs was hit.

Smith was charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Hill was charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Woods was charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon

Springs’ death marks the city's 73rd homicide of 2017.

The shooting happened at the same complex where a college baseball player was killed over the summer.

Zach Finch's' family believes he was meeting a stranger to buy a cellphone when he was shot. Two suspects were arrested in connection with his killing, including a 15-year-old.
