HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — A man was shot and killed Monday night at a Huntersville apartment complex not far from Birkdale Village, police said.
Jaylin Deontaye Griffith, 24, was found with a gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead in the 17000 block of Northstar Drive.
Police said they responded to a residential breaking and entering in progress just before 8:30 p.m.
Kevin William Stevenson, 26, was found at the scene and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries sustained while attempting to run from police, officers said.

After he was released from the hospital, Stevenson was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

“It's sad anytime there's loss of life,” Huntersville police Chief Cleveland L. Spruill said.
