Man hit by train after pushing woman off tracks in Gastonia

GASTONIA, N.C. — A man was taken to the hospital Thursday night after being struck by a train in Gastonia.

Police told Channel 9 that a man and woman had been sitting on the tracks at Avon and Main streets and saw the train coming but thought they had plenty of time to get off the tracks.

When the man realized how fast the train was approaching he pushed the woman off the tracks before being hit by the train, according to police.

Investigators said both had been drinking.

The man suffered injuries to his leg and head and was taken to Gaston Memorial Hospital.
