Man in stolen car leads officers on 100 mph chase along I-85

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A man is in custody after China Grove police said he led them on a high-speed chase along Interstate 85 Sunday morning in Rowan County.

Around 9 a.m., police said they tried to pull over a stolen car driven by Robert Pease for speeding in a construction zone, but that Pease would not stop.

Instead, officers said he led them on a pursuit that reached speeds more than 100 mph.

Once Pease got to Salisbury, state troopers took over, and the chase ended a short while later near the Spencer exit on I-85 northbound.

Pease, 40, is facing multiple charges, including flee to elude arrest, possessing a stolen vehicle, careless and reckless driving and speeding in a work zone.

A passenger in the stolen car, 29-year-old Brittany Owens, was also arrested on outstanding warrants from South Carolina.

No officers were injured in the pursuit.
