Man pleads guilty to assaulting Charlotte flight attendant

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man stood up in court Friday and said he was sorry and regretted his actions the day he attacked a flight attendant on a plane headed to Charlotte.

Michael Kerr pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of interfering with the duties of a flight attendant.

Another passenger captured the attack back in July. Cellphone video shows Kerr refusing to sit down on the American Airlines flight.

According to the plea agreement, Kerr had several Jack Daniels drinks on the flight. Documents said he cursed at the crew and then assaulted a flight attendant. The victim told Channel 9 the assault left several bruises on her arm and hurt her neck.

The victim’s friend said she was glad to see Kerr take responsibility.

“It’s affected her in multiple ways, and we are just glad that we are moving past that and that he pleaded guilty,” Tanisa Love said.

Kerr’s sentencing won’t happen for at least three months. He faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years. He is not allowed to travel by commercial flight or visit Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
