Man arrested in fatal shooting in shopping center parking lot

NORTH CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is dead after being shot Saturday night in a north Charlotte shopping center parking lot.

Officers were called to the parking lot on Docia Crossing Road around 11:30 p.m. and paramedics pronounced Anderson Biggers dead at the scene.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said they received information that the suspect and Biggers, 22, knew each other.

Police haven’t made any arrests, but they said they may have a suspect.

Police said Anderson and the shooter had arranged to meet each other in the BI-LO supermarket parking lot.

People who live and work in the area, which has many businesses and medical practices, told Channel 9 that not much violence happens there.

“These things happen from time to time, but I don’t think it’s indicative of the area by any means,” Dr. Jeffrey Galvin said.

On Sunday, Galvin was putting the finishing touches on his new Vivality Medical Wellness Institute, which is set to open this week. The cluster of medical practices and retail space made it an attractive place for him to relocate.

“We picked this area for a reason. We know that it’s a low-crime area,” Galvin said.

Galvin has worked as an emergency room surgeon for more than 20 years.

“I mean, I never got used to taking care of gunshot wounds in the emergency department,” Galvin said. “It’s certainly concerning. I hate to see it happen.”

Christian Chamberlin had just left the area to drop off a movie. He said the area was quiet.

“Just to hear that somebody was shot here, when I was actually around here at that time, is just pretty scary,” Chamberlin said.

This is the 34th homicide investigation in Charlotte this year, and the second this weekend.

Fred Shropshier, regional vice president for BI-LO, released this statement:

"We are taking this matter very seriously because the safety of our customers and associates is our highest priority. We are fully cooperating with local law enforcement on this active investigation and we thank the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for their quick response."

Investigators are still asking anyone who might have been in the area to contact them with information.
