Man stealing packages from porch attacks homeowner, police say

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said that a man stealing packages from porches in a Charlotte neighborhood also attacked a woman who confronted him.

The woman told Channel 9 that someone had been taking packages from porches in south Charlotte on Collingwood Drive. She confronted the man when she saw him steal her neighbor's packages last month.

She started taking photographs of the man and that’s when she said the thief began hitting her with the packages.

Officers are investigating the attack.

Channel 9 has been covering a drastic increase in stolen porch packages cases across the area recently.

Surveillance video from north Charlotte showed someone taking a couple's package and running to a waiting car.

Similar crimes have been reported in Iredell County.
