Matthews police charge 3 in connection with weekend homicide

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Matthews police have arrested three people in connection with a shooting that left a man dead and another injured in a hotel parking lot over the weekend.

Police charged 19-year-olds Emmanuel Rangel and Edward Sanchez with first-degree murder and charged 18-year-old Emily Isaacs with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder.

Officers responded to a shots fired call at about 1 a.m. Sunday in the rear parking lot of the Microtel at 1603 Matthews-Mint Hill Road.

They discovered two men shot in a vehicle -- one was dead and the other suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators identified the deceased as 22-year-old Rosool Harrell.

Officers said that Rangel was being held at the Mecklenburg County Jail after he was arrested and charged in the killing of three people in Charlotte Tuesday.

Sanchez and Isaacs were in custody in Harris County, Texas awaiting extradition.
