Mecklenburg County sheriff's deputy involved in crash near uptown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A Mecklenburg County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a crash Saturday morning near uptown Charlotte, MEDIC said.

The deputy was on Brookshire Boulevard when he pulled over and activated his emergency equipment in order to assist a disabled truck in the left lane near Independence Boulevard, the Mecklenburg Sheriff's Office said.

A white van pulled up behind the deputy and stopped. A black Chrysler 300 came up behind the white van and slammed into it, which caused the white van to slam into the back of the deputy's patrol vehicle, officials said.

MEDIC said it did not transport anyone to the hospital from the scene.

When Channel 9 arrived to the scene, the deputy's patrol vehicle was already gone from the scene.
