Suspects on the loose after fatal shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Gunfire erupted in the middle of the afternoon at an east Charlotte apartment complex.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police detectives were called to Kimmerly Glen Apartments on Endolwood Road just before 4 p.m. Monday after neighbors reported hearing gunshots.

When police arrived they found two men suffering from critical injuries. They were transported to Carolinas Medical Main where one victim was pronounced dead.

The other man underwent surgery for his injuries Monday night. The suspects are still on the run.

"We do believe the suspects and the victims knew each other. This is not a random act," says Capt. Chuck Henson with the police department.

Detectives spent most of the night going door to door talking to witnesses and searching for evidence.

Police say the men were shot inside one of the apartments before the suspects got away.

So, far police do not have a description of those suspects.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
