2 juveniles accused of armed robbery, leading police on chase before collision with train

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say a crash involving an Amtrak train and a car in north Charlotte Friday night started as an armed robbery.

The crash happened near Atando Avenue and North Graham Street.

Officers said they got a call just before 10 p.m. about a robbery on Mont Carmel Lane.

Officers found the suspect vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the driver did not stop so they pursued it. The pursuit ended when the car hit the Amtrak train on Atando Avenue near North Graham Street.

CMPD said the two people in the car were not seriously hurt and were taken into custody after the collision.

There were no injuries to passengers or crew members on board the train, according to Amtrak.

Police said two juveniles were arrested and charged with armed robbery, felony conspiracy and possession of a firearm by a minor.

No other information has been released.
