MONROE, N.C. — A memorial to 10 black Confederate soldiers will be dedicated Saturday in Monroe.
The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on the grounds of the historic Union County’s Courthouse.
Residents fought for years to honor the Pensioners of Color with a permanent memorial.
Several of the soldiers' descendants will speak in their memory at the service.
