MONROE, N.C. - A memorial to 10 black Confederate soldiers will be dedicated in Monroe at the grounds of the Union County Historic Courthouse at 2 p.m.
Residents fought for years to honor the group known as the Pensioners of Color with a permanent memorial.
Descendants of several of the
soldiers will speak in their memory at the service.
