Military veterans travel to Washington, D.C., on Queen City honor flight

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Dozens of area military veterans had a trip of a lifetime that honored their service to the United States.

More than 90 World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans returned to Charlotte from Washington, D.C., following their Queen City Honor Flight.

The nonprofit initiative, with nearly 700 volunteers, takes veterans to the nation’s capital to visit memorials that honor their service.

“The memorials and all that is great and everything, but to see the appreciation that these people have for us, that's what really counts,” veteran James Hord said.

Since the program started, it has flown more than 150,000 veterans to Washington, D.C.
