MONROE, N.C. — A man was taken to a hospital after a shooting Wednesday afternoon on Wheaton Way in Monroe, police said.
The man was conscious and able to talk on the way to the hospital, officials told Channel 9.
Police said a woman shot her boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend around noon. A neighbor told Channel 9 anchor Liz Foster that the woman's 2-year-old child was home at the time of the shooting. Police have not confirmed that information to Channel 9.

Marty Fleming described what he saw and heard moments after the shooting when a female deputy arrived at the house.
"A woman comes running out of the house and I heard her say to some effect, 'Stop right there, put your hands up.' She put her hands behind her back," Fleming said.
Channel 9 asked what led up to the shooting and if it was self-defense. Authorities said it's early in the investigation and they would not speculate on the motive.
Channel 9 discovered that police have been called to the home 14 times since Thanksgiving.
Police said after the investigation is finished, they will consult with the district attorney's office to decide on any potential charges.
