UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Union County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man after his 8-week-old son was hospitalized in critical condition.
Ronald Roberts, 27, of Monroe, is charged with felony child abuse.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers responded on Saturday to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center after they received a report of child abuse. Officers passed the case to the sheriff’s office after an investigation found that the child was abused in Union County, authorities said.
Roberts, his fiancée and their two children live on Baucom and Son Road.
Deputies arrested Roberts after interviewing family members and doctors about the child’s injuries.
Roberts is expected to appear Tuesday in Union County District Court.
“We investigate every case with the same degree of intensity, but when you talk about a case of child abuse, that takes it to a different level. We are all praying for this little boy,” Sheriff Eddie Cathey said.
