Morganton, Valdese officials to discuss 911 funding issue

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — Fighting over 911 funding in Burke County will take center stage in a Monday meeting.

Morganton and Valdese officials said property owners should not have to pay twice for 911 services if other towns in Burke County don't have to.

Officials said their residents pay once with municipal taxes and again with county taxes.

In December, Morganton and Valdese officials said they planned to pull out of the consolidated 911 communications center.

The Morganton City Council will discuss the 911 funding issue. They are expected to decide if they will officially withdraw from the 911 interlocal agreement.
