Mother says second-grade son given prescription pill by student

SALISBURY, N.C. — A mother told Channel 9 she was outraged after her son was given a prescription pill by another student.

Melissa Knox is grateful her son didn’t take the pill.  She said several children were given the pills by another second-grader at Koontz Elementary School last week.

Channel 9 has also learned that last month the mom of a third-grader filled out a police report, after she said another child gave him a pill with a powdery substance.

"It is horrifying especially at this age, you can't even trust sending your child to an elementary school without being worried for their safety,” parent Jennifer Leigh Goodman said.

Rowan County deputies said they were unaware of the most recent incident.

Eyewitness News reached out to Rowan Salisbury Schools. They declined to comment.
