Mother of teenager killed outside of high school thanks city council

CHARLOTTE — On Monday night the mother of a teenager hit and killed outside her high school thanked Charlotte City Council members for their efforts to keep other students safe.

Brittany Palmer died outside Garinger High School in 2012. Last month, City Council approved construction of a new crosswalk at the busy Eastway Drive intersection.

"The enthusiastic, unanimous decision made a dream come true for me," said Palmer's mother Katrina White. "To the City Council and to the Charlotte Department of Transportation, thank you. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart."

The crosswalk will be named 'Brittany's Crossing' in her honor.
