LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A man driving a motorcycle was killed while leading police on a chase and crashing into a pickup truck on Highway 27 in Lincoln County on Saturday, troopers say.

Edward Case, 49, from Mount Holly, fled on his motorcycle after police attempted a traffic stop just before 3 p.m..

Troopers said Case died after colliding with the pickup truck.

“There were two police cars chasing this motorcycle,” witness David Bell said. “When he hit that curb right there, he just ran right into that white pickup truck.”

Officials said the driver and passenger of the pickup truck were taken to Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville, and they are expected to survive their injuries.

Highway 27 was closed while crews cleared the road, but it has since reopened.
