MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. - The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of a small plane crash that killed two men in Mount Pleasant.
Channel 9 has confirmed one of the victims has been identified as the nephew of District Attorney Jay Gaither.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office identifies the victims of the Thursday crash as 20-year-old Matt Gaither of Johns Island and 33-year-old Graham Borland of North Charleston, a flight instructor.
Officials said the crash happened about 11:30 on Thursday morning when the plane went down shortly after taking off from the Mount Pleasant Regional Airport. The plane crashed in a swampy area several hundred yards off the end of the runway.
Jay Gaither is district attorney for Burke, Caldwell and Catawba counties.
