CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. - Donna Frost’s body was found Monday in west Michigan and police arrested her boyfriend, Jackie McConnell, on a fugitive warrant in Conover, N.C.
Police had been looking for Frost, of Michigan, and McConnell since last week.
Police said they tracked McConnell from Michigan to Conover after getting information from a family member.
Channel 9 learned he confessed to police and apologized for murdering his girlfriend.
Police said the car from Michigan used to dispose of the body ended up in a salvage yard in Caldwell County, where it was crushed and later shredded before investigators could find it.
Police from Michigan said McConnell is locked up in the Catawba County jail
They said he led directed them to the location of her body in Michigan, under a carpet buried in the ground.
"He did confess,” said Detective Luis Tejada with the Albion Department of Public Safety in Michigan. “He was sorry. He apologized to the family and said he was going to assist."
McConnell sold the car used during the crime on Craigslist at a mobile home park in Conover.
The person who bought it for $300 said McConnell was “calm as a cucumber” and said the car started knocking on the way down from Michigan and that's why he wanted to sell it.
Police said they believe he may have run out of cash.
Those at the mobile home park were stunned.
"It's crazy,” said Linda Johnson. “It is absolutely crazy. People hurting people. I don't understand how people do that."
Police said McConnell waived extradition and will be taken back to Michigan Tuesday morning.
