NCDOT to close bridge over canal in Belmont

BELMONT, N.C. — The South Point Road bridge in Belmont will be closed for maintenance the morning of Saturday, Jan. 4, and should re-open Monday, Jan. 6, at 6 a.m.

The N.C. Department of Transportation has set up a detour along South Point Road to help motorists navigate the closure.

The $1.2 million improvement project for the bridge over the canal at Duke Energy's Allen Plant Steam Station includes making repairs underneath the bridge as well as painting the structure. Crews will continue painting the bridge after it re-opens, but impact to traffic will be minimal.

Motorists traveling along South Point Road will be detoured to South Main Street and then continue to N.C. 279, until looping back to South Point Road.
