New lottery game to be available in bars, restaurants across NC

The North Carolina Education Lottery will have a new game that officials hope will bring millions of dollars to schools across the state.

The game is called Carolina Keno.

The game pulls 20 numbers every five minutes and is usually played on a screen in bars and restaurants. The more numbers picked, 1 through 80, the greater the chances are to win.

“Carolina Keno will offer a fun, new lottery experience for many North Carolinians and along the way, help raise additional money for education, the good cause the lottery serves,” the executive director of North Carolina Education Lottery, Alice Garland, said.

The N.C. Education Lottery believes the game could bring in $220 million over five years.

Eighteen other states already have their own version of Keno, including Tennessee and Georgia.

But some people, including those in Charlotte, believe it’s not a lottery game but rather a way to gamble.

People can start playing Carolina Keno on Oct. 29.
